Explore the plant diversity of Andalusia’s Mediterranean woodlands through a gentle two-hour guided walk in El Altozano, a private estate declared an Ecological Reserve by the Regional Government of Andalusia.

This well-preserved ecosystem hosts a unique combination of evergreen oaks, cork oaks, and aromatic shrubs adapted to dry summers. Our guides will explain their ecology, adaptations, and importance for wildlife.

A two-hour interpretative walk through forest tracks and trails, learning to identify the main tree and shrub species while experiencing the scents and sounds of the Mediterranean landscape.

Biodiversity

While the focus is on botany, you may also spot forest birds, soaring raptors, or even the elusive Iberian lynx—or at least its tracks—since this area forms part of its natural territory.

Along the way, you’ll explore riparian and Mediterranean forests, observe signs of wildlife such as the Iberian lynx, and may spot iconic species like the Spanish imperial eagle or otter.

The route is suitable for all ages, with minimal elevation change. Comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.

La finca privada El Altozano, declarada Reserva Ecológica por la Junta de Andalucía, es un perfecto ejemplo de bosque mediterráneo bien conservado en el que aprenderemos a distinguir las especies leñosas principales mientras nos dejamos llevar por sus olores y sonidos a lo largo de las distintas estaciones del año.

Una vez en el punto de partida (la entrada de la Finca El Altozano), donde se dejarán los vehículos, empezaremos una ruta a pie de aproximadamente unas dos horas por pistas y sendas a fin de poder disfrutar del mayor número de especies vegetales posible.

Aunque la ruta este centrada en la botánica, no perderemos ojo de lo que acontece en el interior del bosque, donde escucharemos y veremos saltar de mata en mata a multitud de especies de aves forestales, probablemente divisemos rapaces ascendiendo en círculos por las corrientes térmicas y, si tenemos suerte, algún lince ibérico podría cruzarse en nuestro camino. Si no es a él, con mucha probabilidad podremos ver e interpretar sus rastros, adentrándonos en el conocimiento del felino que sobrevivió gracias al refugio que este bosque mediterráneo le supuso.

La ruta es apta para todos los públicos, sin apenas cambios de cota fuertes. Se recomienda calzado cómodo y ropa adecuada a la época del año.

You contribute to the conservation

The book contributes to the conservation of the Ecological Reserve on The Hill

Naturoots started in the year 2017, the management of the farm on The Hill (Sierra Andújar).

Shortly after, we get this natural area was declared the Ecological Reserve, a figure targeted to the conservation that is given to private farms in Andalusia.

Thanks to the income of the Path of the Lynx and other experience we've increased the population of rabbits monte (essential in this ecosystem).

To do this, we built dens auxiliary. And also we have created the only source of water for wildlife during the summer. Amphibians they love.
